3/28/99 -- A Blessing At Holy Spirit/Newman Hall!

On Sunday, March 28th (Palm Sunday), the faith community of Holy Spirit/Newman Hall bestowed a "Farewell and God-speed" blessing on Kathleen and her bike during the 9:30 a.m. Liturgy.

Fr. Al Moser and Mary Doyle, representing the parish, bestowed the blessing and also presented Kathleen with a Cal Tee-shirt with large "Cal" pin (that will be added to the pins and mementos already pinned to the pack that will contain various necessities she will need on her daily journeys).

The text of the blessing follows:

Blessed are you, Lord our God, for You have created wide and wonderful world in which we can travel.
We ask your blessing upon Kathleen as she is about to leave on a journey. Be her ever-near companion, O Holy Guide of Travelers.
And spread the road before her with beauty and adventure.
May all the highways ahead of her be free from harm ad evil.
May she be accompanied by Your holy spirits, your angelic messengers, as were the holy ones of days past.
On this trip may she take with her a heart wrapped in wonder with which to rejoice in all that she meets.
Along with the clothing of wonder, may she have room for a mystic map by which she can find the invisible meanings of the events of her journey - of possible disappointments and delays, of possible breakdowns and rainy day troubles.
Always awake to your Sacred Presence and to your divine compassionate love, may she see in all that happens to her, in the beautiful and the bad, the mystery of Your holy plan.
May the blessing of Your name, Father, Son and Holy Spirit be upon Kathleen throughout this trip, and bring her home to us again in safety and peace.
Amen

With this pre-trip blessing, Kathleen feels she is ready for the adventure before her.
The Saturday before Easter, Paul and Kathleen and daughter, Christina Melnarik will drive from Oakland to Newport Beach.  She'll be joined by her daughter Katheen, son-in-law Jamie, and their two children (Jesse and Parker)
