4/6/99 - Day Three Posting - Coronado Island

Today is a day of "Rest and Relaxation" ... only two days of riding, but after we begin our journey tomorrow we will have seven days of riding before another R&R.

My room mate, Nadine, loves to "sleep in" ... and although I have been known to sleep until 8:00 sometimes, it was not to be today. I finally got out of bed at 7:30 and carried the computer into the bathroom. I found I could put the computer on the toilet seat (covered with a nice thick towel) and by sitting on the wide ledge of the shower, I had a perfect "desk"...it was easier to type my messages from that position than from the angle I have to reach the computer when it is on the desk in the bedroom and I am sitting on the chair!!!!

Last night the computer kept shutting down ...all on its own. I worried about my new little communications mate all night, wondering what I had done to it to make it shut down like that. I was unable to get any lights when I connected the transformer between computer and outlet, so was at a loss .... in the clear reason of morning, it occurred to me to check all the plugs. Sure enough, the plug from the transformer had worked a little bit loose. Once securely pushed in, the little machine buzzed and hummed and its little lights blinked merrily!!! More cause for thanksgiving!!!

This lovely motel, delightful in every way, is not equipped with a suitable telephone outlet in the guest rooms to allow me to connect to the Internet. However, in the lobby I was able to connect the laptop with the "outside world of the internet"! Husband Paul and daughter Christina have done a splendid job in reporting our journey thus far. Much praise and thanks to them for all their effort!

Tomorrow we start out early for a little town called Dulzura, CA ... I hope the B&B where we have reservations, has internet access in the rooms. At any rate, I'll take more pictures along the way and try to chronicle our adventures for day four!!! ...(barring rain, which is predicted)...

Today Nadine has spent mainly engrossed in a book. The two of us took a nice walk this morning together, then later in the day, each one struck out on her own, discovering this very modern but pleasant Island. I took the road to the right of our motel ... past trendy shops and stores, along Orange Street up to and around the famous Hotel Del Coronado. Nadine took the road to the left and meandered back to the Ferry Landing from which we embarked yesterday.

We both did some laundry and have managed to while away the day by relaxing, all the while the sun is teasing ... out brightly for few minutes, only to quickly scoot under a cloud (of which there are many in the San Diego skies) the next moment. As I write this at 5:00 P.M., it has turned down right chilly!!! And I thought San Diego was always warm and sunny!!!!

I will repack my gear soon ... always looking for ways to make it more compact and easier to find things when I want and need them!!! (I'm a slow learner!). Hopefully we will have internet access in Dulzura ... so more "from the road" tomorrow!!!

Peace!

Kathleen
